Some of The winners of the Debate Competition

Holy Family, St. Barnabas and Methodist High Schools dominated this years TRC and UNDP sponsored Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) students debate competition held at Manthabiseng Convention Centre.

The much heated debates were divided into two categories where each group had its topic to debate. These topics were “The Lesotho government has done enough to halve extreme poverty and hunger” and “Lesotho would have achieved universal primary education by 2015”. Best speakers from both sides as well as second and third were selected from both categories by a group of adjudicators and awarded. The winner for the first topic was ‘Majuta Mohasi of St. Barnabas who got a gold medal and a cheque of M1000 followed by Thabiso Senyotong of St. Catherine’s High School who walked away with a silver medal and a cheque of M750 and Nthatisi Lefora also hailing from St. Barnabas who received a bronze medal and a cheque of M500.

On the second topic, “Lesotho would have achieved universal primary education by 2015”, the best speaker was Naomi Ramonono of Methodist High with a gold medal and M1000, second best was Ponts’o Lehasa with a cheque of M750 and a silver medal and Napo Leisanyane also from Methodist High who got a bronze medal and a cheque of M500.

Overall winners were also picked out of each category and each was awarded a Winner’s trophy. On the topic “The Lesotho government has done enough to halve extreme poverty and hunger”, Holy Family High School came out on top while St. Barnabas High won the other category.
