Programme Purpose
- The library continues to position the TRC as a knowledge provider in widespread activities for social change.
- Much of the reading is obviously done for academic purposes and that provides a platform for the development of experts in various fields who in turn will be relied upon to serve in various roles in the uplift of society.
- The TRC library serves as a contact point for many practitioners from all walks of life. This also performs effective marketing for the organization and attracts useful membership. The library therefore targets knowledge gathering, literacy, social mobilization and continuous communication.
Programme Functions
Improving Reading Culture
The Resource Centre holds annual Reading Competitions, which are aimed at aiming at building a nation of readers and future presenters of different ventures in their lives. There are constant reviews that are undertaken where teachers plan how the competition could be improved and be of more benefit to the students.
Book Donations
The Resource Centre receives a donation of books mainly fiction and dictionaries from the Australian family, Mr. David and Mrs. Liz Linn. This family has collected books and sent them to TRC Library in that last three years and the collection had increased with years. These books are distributed to primary and high schools in the ten districts of Lesotho. The aim of this gesture is to see the schools start their own libraries in order to improve the culture of reading among the younger generation.
Inventory Management
The library staff collects books that were repaired at different national libraries in the country. The work has been doen a lot for TRC as all the books have been bounded in a hard cover form and they would last much longer despite many hands that they would go through daily.
Journals
The TRC is currently rebuilding its journal collection. This is in recognition of currency and academic rigour that journals provide especially given the huge cost of purchase and maintenance associated with books. Most journals are in the fields of development, social sciences, management sciences, theology and African studies. In future the TRC periodicals section is expected to be improved to house more journal titles.
Membership Fees
The fees in the Library increased due to members who kept TRC books unless a reminder was sent which caused the Centre a lot of expenses. The following is the increase of fees:
